Empty Thoughts
Contemporary side table
Title: Empty Thoughts Designer: Pascale De Backer Year: 2009 Material: Handmade white paper books, a mirror and a removable glass Colour: White Dimensions: H 30 cm x Ø 50 cm Production: Handmade Photography: Milos Sitarica
Books are slowly disappearing from society. Empty Thoughts is an homage to ‘The Book’ as an enduring object of knowledge, stories, and imagination.
This contemporary side table is composed of handmade white book pages. A mirror beneath the pages reflects their subtle movement, creating the illusion of endless reading, suspended in time and space, as the pages gently respond to the surrounding air.
A removable glass top transforms the work into a functional table. The glass can be lifted off, making it easy to serve drinks while preserving the delicate interaction between the pages, the mirror and the surrounding space.
