Each Tulip comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the designer Pascale De Backer, with the progressive numbering of the Limited Edition and with the stamp of Stockmans Porselein Belgium.

Silent Tulip has been developed as an organic, natural form, which was a challenge.

Every single Tulip is slightly different, as every flower is unique in Nature. 

I wanted to infuse this design with my feelings about a flower, so what is in front of your eyes is not simply a realistic tulip, but more a reflection of my perception of a flower.

I worked with porcelain because it is the best natural material to reflect a flower's fragility, the delicacy of its petals. Porcelain is white and white is pure and silent: the essence of what I wished to reflect in this too chaotic, coloured and noisy world. I chose to use white only because a non-color is stronger and more visible, and I wanted to make the invisible visible again.

The interior is glossy, reflective like a water surface. Like a wound, like the inside of our own flesh. Like a primordial origin of the world. While the outside is matt, non reflective, sober. I wanted to play again between visible and invisible, hidden and revealed, vulnerable and protected, soul and body.

It was an intense process, and I couldn’t predict how it would come out of the oven. Porcelain is durable and water- resistant. But its shrinkage factor (17%) is high, which made it a challenge to calculate properly. Silent Tulip is 28 cm high and has a diameter of 18 cm.

Working with Piet Stockmans has been an enriching experience and a collaboration I will never forget.

Silent Tulip gives the beholder the perception of an extremely fragile and precious essence made of a metaphysical white that is slightly different from the white we normally experience. My aim has been to create a feeling of purity, fragility, and quietness and reproduce the imperceptible breathing movement of a flower in the wind.

I’m terribly missing poetry in this world and I wish to make the world resonate with it.

I wanted to capture the slow-motion movement of the wind in the flower fields. I wanted to show the fragility and beauty of a single flower. I wanted to make a poem in the shape of a tulip. I wanted people to reconnect with Nature, and let them have an eye for the small again, invisible things that surround us.
